IHBC London Branch conference – A Risky Business – Wednesday 2nd October 2013

Booking has now opened for the IHBC London Branch conference looking at practical solutions for heritage at risk; A Risky Business.

In times of recession, it is not surprising that our historic environment can suffer from lack of investment. Buildings fall out of use, or suffer from lack of maintenance, and before we know it a spiral of decline has set in. On a larger scale, whole areas can be affected. At the same time local government financial and staff resources are being reduced. So what can the heritage sector do about it?

“Heritage at Risk is one of those perennial conservation problems which never seems to diminish in its scale. This conference, with its impressive range of expert speakers should give all practitioners the confidence to deal with the most difficult of cases”, commented IHBC President Trefor Thorpe.

The conference will bring together a wide range of speakers to offer guidance on innovative practice. It will look at the scale and extent of heritage at risk; the legislative powers available; and the availability of money to put things right. This will be backed up by some inspiring and practical case studies, which will show how some seemingly intractable buildings and areas at risk can be saved.

Mike Brown, IHBC Chairman said, “IHBC London Branch conferences have consistently dealt with topical issues in an informative and stimulating way. This year’s theme of Heritage at Risk promises to be of equal quality and takes place at the Royal College of Physicians, one of London’s top conference venues. It will also be a good value CPD opportunity for all built environment professionals”.
